LEEDS LOVES COCKTAILS EVENT
I had been invited to attend the Leeds Loves Cocktails Event to kickstart the Summer Season in Leeds, and as soon as I saw that there was a cocktail making competition, 'Ready, Steady, Shake!' I was already planning my outfit!
My friend Amy was my plus one, and off we went to Headrow House. I had never been there before, so I was unsure as to what to expect. As we arrived, there was a real urban feel to the venue and it felt very laidback. We were given a lanyard, and two free tokens to use as our free drinks.
For my first drink, I chose the Rhubarb & Custard Martini in which it contained: Grey Goose Vodka, Rhubarb Jam, Lemon and a Custard Drop. I am known by a few people for being a 'lightweight' (I hang my head in shame.) So this drink, safe to say, did not take long for me to feel the effects! We then sat down, and were split into teams. The team I was in was the 'Jack Daniels' team, and our team name was 'The Lynchburgh Lemonads!'
The idea was to create a cocktail using different ingredients to add to the Jack Daniels. We chose:
- Apple Juice
- Mint
- Apple
- Blueberries
- Passion Fruit Liqueur
- Peach Liqueur
- Jack Daniels
I had wanted to use the banana somewhere, but I was on my own on this one... Anyway! We began creating our 'practice' cocktail, and in next to no time, our creation was made! The name of our cocktail was 'What a load of cobblers!' It tasted fresh, which was perfect for the Spring/Summer season! However, before creating the final cocktail, we added more blueberries to make it slightly sweeter. The other teams went before us, and showed us their cocktail creations and they all looked so appealing! It was our turn to present and make our cocktail in front of the judges, and we had all been given a role. My role was to pour each of the judges and ourselves a shot of Jack Daniels. (Of course.)
Alas, we did not win the competition, however it's the taking part that counts right? As the event started to wind down, it was time for another cocktail before we made a move, and I chose the Sage Advice in which it contained: Bombay Sapphire Gin, Chambord, Pink Grapefruit, Sage Syrup and Lemon Juice. Out of the two cocktails, this was my favourite! It was so sweet and refreshing! The whole night was a great experience, and something I had never done before!
Leeds Loves Cocktails begins on June 6th and runs right through the week to June 12th. You can view all of the different venues hosting their testing event or party here! I have already clocked a few of my favourite bars so I shall definitely be attending these! To ensure that you don't miss out on this special week, you can purchase your wristband here which will allow you to attend these special events! This wristband allows you to purchase any drink on the bars menu, for just £4.50... Amazing right? Remember, drink better, not more!
Will you be attending the Leeds Loves Cocktails Events? Are there any bars on the list which you want to attend? Let me know, as I'd love to hear your comments!
